2023: Delta Central And The Ideal Candidate For Governorship Ticket.

By Dr Fred Latimore Esq.

That power will shift to Delta Central in 2023, is not the borne of contention, rather it is the question of who is most appropriate or suitable to fly the governorship ticket for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In political equation, various interests are usually considered. As captured in George Orwell's Animals Farm, "All Animals are Equal, but some are more Equal than the Others." This attests to the weight usually attached to individual political gladiator, and his or her political interest in power distribution.

And of course, this may have accounted for the call for leaders of PDP in the state to meet and collectively drive the electioneering process to fruition. In doing this, the leaders would definitely play politics; whether to agree or not to agree on who succeeds the incumbent governor.

And when the choice of candidate does not pass the litmus test among leaders, the next hurdle will shift to political structures test of popularity among the populace in varying degrees. This is certainly not the best option, a consensus by the leaders and major stakeholders is recommended.

Certain criteria comes to mind; the weight of the gladiators behind aspirants and the popularity, antecedents and leadership qualities of aspirants. Another important issue will be good governance, building on the legacies of this administration and not someone who will serve his or her group interest to the disadvantage of majority of Deltans.

Incumbent governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has been able to prove that prudent management of state resources is possible, and this must become a major criteria in the selection process. A leader with human face, detribalised and who will provide good governance, even if he or she has to step on some big toes to achieve tangible results for Deltans.

Power shift, as we know it today in Delta, is almost sacrosanct with numerous benefits; it promotes unity and peaceful coexistence, power is rotated so that both the weak and the strong, the majority and the minority on senatorial basis are able to govern the state, make contributions to development and to expand the  political empire of PDP in the state.

To rotate power among ethnic nationalities will certainly be chaotic.

It follows that power shift to Delta Central in 2023, is real and careful selection must be made, so that the next PDP government will improve on the achievements of Okowa's good governance strides.

Lobby groups must therefore be transparent and keep promises made so that the flow will yield expected results.

Chief E.K Clark's body language also suggests that power shift to Delta Central is ideal, with a proviso that whosoever emerges as PDP governorship candidate from Delta Central, must be someone with unblemished background and be ready to provide good governance and overall development of the entire state.
